EXHIBITION IN CELEBRATION PICASSO’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY

AT SOHO HOME LONDON

PABLO PICASSO | Alice Corbett | Lydia Corbett

David Simon Contemporary

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary year of Picasso’s death, David Simon Contemporary presents an exhibition at Soho Home, Chelsea, of original works on paper by Pablo Picasso alongside paintings and ceramics by his last surviving muse, Lydia Corbett, known as “The Girl with the Ponytail”, with ceramics by her daughter, Alice Corbett.

Lydia Corbett, née Sylvette David, was the subject of more than seventy paintings and sculptures by Picasso, after meeting in 1954. She has been painting full time for over forty years and holding  some twenty solo exhibitions in London, as well as around the world. Recalling memories of her life as a young woman, she has learned a new way of working - with her 'inner eye'. Working directly onto canvas and wooden panels, she creates bold and powerful compositions in oils, often with charcoal. The exhibition also includes the collaborative achievements with her daughter, Alice Corbett, working together in ceramics. Lydia transfers images of memories and her imagination in a direct way by working with her hands, using the sense of touch and feel as well as vision.
